Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, cultural centre and one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe.

There are plenty of museums, theatres, historic buildings and cathedrals. The city offers beautiful places for walking and memories for a lifetime.

What to visit in Kiev?

Lavra monastery complex

It is a giant complex of monasteries, located in one of the central districts and is considered one of the holiest Orthodox sites and the oldest in Eastern Europe.  Beneath this complex are tunnels where the bodies of priests and monks of the past lie.

Motherland Statue

It sits on a hill and tends to 'dominate' the area, with a height of about 62 metres. In one hand it holds a 16-metre sword and in the other a shield. Nearby is the museum dedicated to World War II battles.

Independence Square or Maidan

The main boulevard where the Orange Revolution took place. Here are situated buildings dating back to the Soviet period, and on one side is the huge column symbolizing Ukraine's independence and on the opposite side the statue of St Michael.

Mariyinsky Palace

The official residence of the President of Ukraine, which is next to the parliament.

National Museum of Art

It is a building that dates back to 1898 and hosts works of famous artists from Ukraine and Russia.

Aviation Museum

It is located within Zhulyany Airport and has impressive warplanes.

Water Park

It is located on two islands Nipru and Dolobetsky Venice and connected by a bridge. It consists of several beaches, a casino, restaurants, cafes, playgrounds and many other attractions.

Kitchen

The main dish that represents modern Ukrainian cuisine is Chicken Kiev.

Tourists can also try some traditional dishes such as borshch soup - prepared with meat, mushrooms, beans and plums, cabbage soup, pork lard - which Ukrainians spread on bread instead of butter.
