What to visit in Bologna

Piazza Maggiore and Neptuno

These two squares are located next to each other. It's the place where people meet, where you can soak up the lively atmosphere.

San Petronio

The largest church in Bologna, but also the third largest church in Italy, after the Duomo in Milan and the one in Florence.

To admire the monuments of Bologna, you can climb the Terrazza di San Petronio, 54 metres high, either by stairs or by lift.

Fontana del Nettuno

The controversial work of art in stone and bronze, it's a location in piazza del Nettuno not to be missed.

Asinelli and Garisenda Leaning Towers

Located next to each other, the towers are named after the important noble families who built them. Asinelli is 97.2 metres high and was once used as a prison and fortress. Garisenda is lower - just 48 metres - but has a very noticeable incline. It was originally 60 metres high, but had to be shrunk because it leaned dangerously.

Palazzo D’Arcusio

Today this is the seat of the town hall, which houses a chapel and a fine arts museum.

St Stephen's Basilica

The oldest church in Bologna, consisting of 8 buildings that can be called the cradle of the Bolognese faith.

Former Jewish ghetto

A network of suspended, covered bridges, just like in ancient times. The area is picturesque with colorful houses. There are lots of craft studios here, as well as the Jewish Museum of Bologna.

Sanctuary of Madonna di San Luca

The iconic Sanctuary of San Luca is situated on the top of Monte della Guardia, overlooking the city, and is one of Bologna's must-see attractions.

Cuisine

Italy is known for its typical dishes such as pizza, pasta, prosciutto, but Bologna also has some typical dishes.

Tagliatelle al ragu, tortellini al ragu, lasagna with pesto, panino con mortadella and cotoletta (Bolognese-style chicken breast). All worth a try!!
